Murray is as good a realtor as you can get without being able to see the future. Could not recommend him more.
Murray helped us buy a single family and sell a condo. He moved heaven and earth to make this happen, here’s some things he did:
- Tell us everything that’s wrong with every home we visited, instead of trying to sell us on closing deals quickly. He used to build and it shows, he has a really deep understanding of how homes are built. This is especially important in NJ where many of the homes are very old and have had additions done, often badly.
- When we found our perfect home, he guided us through a strategy that was aggressive but fair. We gave a fair offer on the home, not high _and not low_. He then played every card to get them to take it. He got the listing agent to cancel the open house in favor of our offer! This was during a really hot market.
- Both buyer and seller walked away happy - we paid a fair price for the house and the transaction was quick and smooth.
- Immediately after buying the house, the market froze up while we were selling the condo.
- Murray guided us through strategically lowering the price but not too much, and screening predatory offers.
- He designed an exit strategy in case we don’t get a good offer. The plan was to upgrade the condo and carry it into the next season. He told us like it is - this will probably work but there are often unexpected costs, it’s better to sell now at a fair price. He priced it out for us since he can do the general contracting on this kind of work.
- When we did get a real offer, Murray organized with the buyer’s agent to minimize haggling and get everyone moving.
- The buyer had no requests after inspection. This is, of course, not entirely due to Murray, but he did make it clear that they are paying a fair price and that we might walk if there are any problems.
- We ended up with a good sale price for our condo in an ice-cold market.
The result is that we sold our condo at a good price, bought our home at a good price, and are now living in our dream single family with the mortgage almost entirely paid off and everyone happy. We got very unlucky with the timing but ended up with literally our perfect home, we couldn’t be happier.
You should work with Murray if:
- You appreciate honest, incredibly knowledgeable people who are looking to buy and sell at prices that make sense for everyone.
- You want someone who will tell you the unvarnished truth every time.
- You want to trade aggressively but at fair prices for good homes.
You should work with someone else if:
- You want to be told every home you look at is perfect and that every buyer can be squeezed.
- You want to bargain-hunt for months without buying anything and end up barely winning a bid for a home with lots of problems you don’t know about because no one told you.
- You want to fleece a buyer and are looking for someone who will spend months with you trying to overprice everything.

Tom is THE BEST real estate agent! We have known Tom for many years as he has helped my parents purchase their home over 17 years ago! My parents took over 2 years to find their home and Tom patiently and diligently showed them many homes before they selected. When it became our turn to find a home I had no doubt Tom could help us! Our home search strategy was quite different then that of my parents and my husband and I took an aggressive approach looking at as many homes as possible, quite quickly. When my beloved Mother passed away I found myself impoverished and I had no way to make the repairs and preparations which were necessary to bring her home to market before a reverse mortgage foreclosure took place. Murray Robertson made miracles happen. Not once or twice but again and again. Every detail from the disposal of junk to finding legal counsel to repairing the kitchen sink and plumbing became resolved as if there was no financial obstacle. Murray has cultivated a network of professionals who span across a wide spectrum of disciplines. They agreed to defer payment until after the closing of the house as they made repairs and improvements ahead of the open house event. Because my Mother's home was architecturally very unusual, there was an additional challenge about how to present an unconventional home to a market which expects something more ordinary. Murray used his photographic and multimedia talents to produce an online presentation which captured attention and intrigued the market. As a result, a large pool of offers poured in within a very short period of time. Murray is a fountain of inspiration as a person. His spiritual strength is contagious and his professionalism is without question. Murray is the kind of person you need on your side when things are tough.
Fast forward to the closing, where lawyers handle the process of finalizing the sale of a home in a formal meeting between buyer, seller, and their respective attorneys. A superb lawyer named Mr. Robert Dunn was on my side because Murray helped me to procure his services. As I sat at the table, Mr. Dunn expressed his amazement at exactly how much Murray did to help me. He had never seen anything like it before during his long and successful career.
